TheWell Yearmovement

At Running Water, drilling a well is not the finish line. What matters is the years water keeps flowing. That is why we measure impact in Well Year: each year of clean water sustained for a community. Every Well Year means hours returned to women for enterprise, days of school gained for girls, and income potential unlocked for families who can now plan beyond survival.

The
Challenge

Chebet rises before dawn to walk miles for water that may not even be safe. For her, water is the line between hope and hardship. Stories like hers are why 1 in 4 wells in Sub Saharan Africa being non functional is not just a statistic. It is a crisis of sustainability that affects millions of women, girls and families every day.

Sustainable Model

It became the ecosystem where running water grew into the sustainable model it is today.

When a well runs, women and girls feel the change first. Hours once spent walking for water are reclaimed for school, childcare, farming, and small businesses. Mothers gain time to grow livelihoods. Daughters remain in class. Men join as Stewards, sharing responsibility. This balance strengthens the entire community, not as charity but as shared progress.

WOMEN & GIRLSWOMEN & GIRLS

Are everyday leaders who rally their networks and fund a community's first well, becoming a 'River' partner.
